For a while I worked at Wonderland Greyhound Track in Revere, in a nondescript “complaints” office with another guy.. It was a boring, but easy, 2nd-shift job (: But, Monday mornings I feel more like those anxious doggies, maniacally trying to catch that dang rabbit again!
we love hate you
Praise and criticism are two edges of the same sword. If we embrace and hold praise, we should be ready for the “cut” from the critic. On the other hand, if we politely acknowledge both edges, but don’t grab at either, the sword remains at arm’s length.
at the end of my cable
recently dumped Verizon Fios.. And wrote a poem about it.
“On Hold Cancellation Ode to Verizon”
Dear Verizon
I’m sending you off to the horizon
Six years ago, shiny and new
Our journey began.. But now has a dull dusty hue
I called for an update, in a tone so nice
But you wanted an upgrade, and a much higher price!
I protested, saying, “A new customer walks in
& gets a bundle.. with a big Verizon grin
But faithful customers like me who hang around
get only old boxes and a sad Verizon frown.”
So I went down to Cox Cable, to cut a new deal
which will soon expire… so let’s get real
I’ll probably be back.. So please don’t cry
Just be nicer next time, and I won’t say goodbye (:
Spoiler Alert: It’s Me!
If our current politics were a Disney movie, this is about the time we learn Princess Ivanka has a secret admirer.
What’s That Thing Over There?
If they build the border wall and I see it, I will probably say, “Hey, look, there’s the wall.” And someone will reply, “Oh yeah, there it is.”
I’ll Take the Jesus
Growing up, there was a pretty standard picture of Jesus everywhere, and although I’ve never given it much thought, I think that’s the hairstyle I’ve always gone for.
Expect Respect!
I often hear the phrase “respect is earned”.. But I think it should be “respect is given, trust is earned.” Sure, someone can quickly lose your respect.. but starting at “no respect until you’ve earned it” is kinda a prickly policy imho (:
When Liberty Waves, Wave Back
I hope the woman in the statue of liberty costume, who waved at me from in front of H&R Block, (and reminded me to file my taxes) gets some kind tax break for that. I don’t know much about taxes, but that was a real public service. (:
Bob Dylan’s Deep Satire
I saw a clip of Dylan and Joan Baez singing “It Ain’t Me Babe,” and they kept breaking out laughing. I guess the notion of Bob Dylan “gather (ing) flowers constantly” is pretty funny. And now, I wonder if the whole thing is a bit of a “put on.”
My fav “unreasonable requests” in the song are “Someone to die for you..and more” “to protect and defend you.. whether you are right or wrong” “someone to close their eyes.. to close their heart” “A lover for your life.. and nothing more”!?
Movie Naught
2 movies that don’t go together: manchester by the sea / david brent: life on the road!
